Alila Diwa Goa celebrates Earth Day 2017
Alila Diwa Goa celebrated Earth Day on 22nd April 2017 to demonstrate their support for environmental protection. Since it was established on 22nd April, 1970 the goal of Earth Day has been to raise awareness on the effect our everyday activities on the environment, climate, and the health and wellbeing of every plant and animal on the planet.
In an endeavour to uphold the brand’s commitment to sustainable tourism, Alila Diwa Goa commemorated Earth Day by undertaking various initiatives. All in-house guests were given an eco-friendly plant-a-wish card with a message to spread greenery. These greetings were made on recycled paper and embedded with seeds that the guest could take back and plant in a pot of soil. The handmade seed cards would recycle naturally into the soil.
Discarded hotel upholstery and clothes collected during Daan Utsav (Joy of giving week) were donated to Goonj, an NGO that turns waste and underutilised materials into resources for rural development. Additionally, the Alila Diwa Goa team undertook a cleanup drive of the road from the hotel leading to Gonsua beach. Each department head was gifted a potted plant to be nurtured in their respective departments/offices.
Speaking about these activities, Siddharth Savkur, general manager at Alila Diwa Goa said, “Alila Diwa Goa has always been committed to minimizing its environmental impact. The theme for 2017 is Environment and Climate Literacy, and our primary aim was to educate citizens and guarantee fluency in the concepts of climate change and its unprecedented threat to the globe.”
