The government has on December 30 2010 approved the constitution of a board that will streamline the system of clearances for hotel development projects. The Hospitality Development and Promotion Board is to operate at central and state levels and will be responsible for approving and facilitating of hotel projects. State governments and union territories will also be advised to set up similar boards. The tourism secretary will be the board's chairman at the central level and the chief secretary of the state government will be the boar's chairman at the state level.
The Hospitality Development and Promotion Board is expected to be a single window for receiving applications for various clearances for quick approval of hotel projects. The board is also expected to review hotel project policies to encouarge the growth of hospitality infrastructure in the country.

The decision has reportedly been taken in the wake of continuous pleas from the hotel industry. The industry's various associations have repeatedly requested for to streamlining of the system for quicker clearances of hotel projects as Indian hospitality projects have earned the notoriety of never meeting their deadlines due to lengthy approval procedures.
