The nearby convention and exhibition facilities, as well as a new major sports center currently under construction, will generate substantial business and leisure travel and demand. Taiyuan is a strategic center for industry and energy development in China as well as an important location for education and research in fields such as science and technology.

Fairmont Taiyuan will offer corporate and leisure travelers 330 guestrooms and suites, located on the upper floors of the tower anchoring the development. Guests will enjoy an extensive selection of lounges and restaurants featuring a variety of culinary offerings. For corporate events and local galas, the hotel features 3,500 square meters of function space, including a 1,500 square meter ballroom. Fairmont Taiyuan will include a Willow Stream Spa, the award-winning signature spa brand as well as fitness and pool facilities. All therapies at Willow Stream in Asia are “energy inspired” drawing from modern Western and traditional Chinese philosophies using prestigious international spa products.

“China is a key market for the global expansion of our company, to support our hotels within the country as well as to create brand awareness with Chinese international travelers,” said Chris Cahill, President, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. “The addition of Taiyuan allows us to continue building synergies in the region, particularly in Northern China and to become part of an exciting new chapter of this historic city, with partners who are leading the development of this emerging new business district.”

Taiyuan, an important industrial city along a key communication route in the region is bordered by mountains including the famed Tianlong with its ancient grottos and over 1500 statues and embossings dating back to 420 and spanning 10 dynasties. The city itself has a 2500-year history, evident by the number of rich cultural and historic temples and attractions.
