Development of Hilton’s Denizen brand in India has been put on hold until its lawsuit with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has been resolved.
When Hilton announced the launch of the luxury hotel chain Denizen at ITB Berlin in March this year, India was one of the countries on the list for the global development of the brand.
However, with a subpoena issued to Hilton Hotels, the brand’s progress has been stopped. According to sources at Hilton Hotels, the brand will continue with its other plans for India.
The group has plans for 16 Hampton by Hilton properties, a Doubletree by Hilton at Gurgaon, and other properties under its Homewood Suites, Garden Inn and Hilton brands. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide accused Hilton Hotels Corporation last month of using stolen confidential Starwood documents to develop the Denizen brand speculation over the development of both brands in India abound.
Starwood have refused to comment on the issue. The company has no immediate plans for the W brand in India and have refused to comment on the issue. They have maintained that the legal matter is primarily limited to North America.
