With the highest ADR, occupancy rates and RevPAR in the country for the month of March, New Delhi ousted Bangalore as the city claiming top ADR, says the survey by STR Global
Signs of hotel business picking up in some parts of the country were reflected in the improving occupancy rates of four metro cities in India. entages did drop, there was a marked improvement over the previous year. Bangalore registered the highest drop in occupancy rates.
The city showed an occupancy percentage of 50.2% a huge drop of 26.7% as compared to March 2008. Mumbai’s drop in occupancy rate was a close second at 52.2%, a difference of 24.3% from March 2008. New Delhi (-20.3%) and Chennai (-16.2%) seem to be on fairly safer ground. The data analysis by STR Global surveyed Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi compared figures of occupancy rates, ADR and RevPAR (Revenue PerAvailableRoom) during March 2008 with March 2009. The data also reflected a year to date change.

Despite recording the highest occupancy rates for March 2009, the RevPAR figures for New Delhi (March 2008 Vs. March 2009) registered a negative drop at – 41.7%.
Last month Mumbai showed a slow and steady increase, but this month the city’s figures looked bleak at a low ADR of Rs. 6,069 and RevPAR of Rs. 3,165. The increasing currency exchange rate continued to reflect on ADR (Average Daily Rate) and RevPAR. This month too, all four cities indicated fewer rooms being sold.
Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi registered negative indices. The data was culled from an overall 921 properties, representing approximately 75,000 rooms.
The participation from the city of Mumbai was the highest, with participation from 54,192 rooms and 750 properties. However, a sample size for each city was predetermined during data collection.
