Shiv Kumar Jatia of Asian Hotels is feeling the pull of the immense opportunity of India’s mid-market segment enough to draw him away from his five-star deluxe projects.
Jatia is mulling an entry in to the Indian mid-market segment by 2012, looking to capitalise on the segment’s ‘immense opportunity’. This will most likely be independent of Asian Hotels, in which his family is one three main partners.
“We are looking at the mid-market segment after two years because the opportunity is here and will continue to grow,” said the Asian Hotels’ managing director, on the third day of the HIFI 2010, earlier this month in Mumbai.
Asian Hotels is a partnership between three prominent Indian hospitality families; Jatia, Gupta and Saraf. The company owns three five-star deluxe hotels – all Hyatt Regency – with one each in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.
The Jatia family, in their own capacity, also own India’s first Four Seasons hotel, which is in Mumbai.
