IHCL is coming up with nine new properties in the financial year 2010, all in their premium hotels segment. There will be one each in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bekal (Kerala), Coorg, Coimbatore, Srinagar, Gurgaon, and two in New Delhi. The latter three of course, are scheduled to be up-and-running in time for the CWG.
“In my brand, there are nine hotels coming up in this financial year,” said Veer Vijay Singh, COO, Premium Hotels, Indian Hotels Company Ltd.
“India will now be looking at tertiary or resort cities. People are now considering destinations which will be unique as tourist spots.”
According to Singh, one needs to look at new cities where the need is still to have more hotel rooms. “It is a chicken-and-egg syndrome; will guests come first, or the hotels. Cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Chandigarh are over-saturated at the moment, with all the projected development," he said.
