Surveillance solution provider Axis Communications has introduced a new series of thermal network cameras which complement any network video system that is required to secure an area 24x7.
The AXIS Q1910 and AXIS Q1910-E cameras use thermal imaging which allows users to detect people and incidents with greater reliability even in complete darkness and other difficult conditions.
“Axis thermal network cameras are a perfect complement to any professional IP-Surveillance system that needs to secure an area or a perimeter in complete darkness. They create images based on the heat that always radiates from any object, vehicle, or person.
This gives the cameras the power to see through complete darkness and deliver images that allow operators to detect and act on suspicious activity,” said Prakash Prabhu, country manager, Axis Communications, India.
AXIS Q1910 is designed for indoor surveillance, while AXIS Q1910-E is an IP66-rated, outdoor-ready camera. Prabhu says that while thermal cameras are traditionally used for force protection, border and coastal surveillance, and facility security, both these cameras are targetted at the commercial and industrial segments, and are excellent for monitoring hotel premises, freeways and railways.

The cameras offer competitive thermal imaging capabilities such as 160 x128 resolution, 8.33 fps and 17° angle of view.
In addition, they are unique in that they support key IP-Surveillance features such as H.264 and Motion JPEG, audio, local storage and Power over Ethernet. Intelligent video is a key component of any thermal camera, and AXIS Q1910/-E provides tampering alarm, motion detection, and support for AXIS camera application platform.
“We see a great demand from customers in high-end professional applications to enhance their IP-Surveillance systems with thermal cameras,” said Johan Paulsson, chief technology officer, Axis Communications.
He added that until now, there have been no full-featured thermal network cameras available in the market, and analog thermal cameras have proven a challenge to integrate with modern video surveillance systems.
“Both these cameras change this by being the industry’s first thermal cameras that mesh perfectly with any network video system, delivering all the benefits that customers have learned to expect from network cameras,” Paulsson said. The cameras will be available in the Indian market by the first week of March 2010.
