The GM Roundtable in Bengaluru.

 

Hotelier India’s General Manager & Leadership Roundtable which was presented by Ecolab was held at Conrad Bengaluru. The evening reinforced the need to increase dialogue and interaction among hospitality professionals to effect excellence in hotel operations. The general managers of some of the leading hotels in Bengaluru exchanged notes and discussed what they did best throughout their career in the hospitality industry, both in India and abroad.

Nirupa Shankar, Director, Brigade Hospitality

 

Our GM’s, led by moderator Nirupa Shankar, Director Brigade Hospitality, started the deliberation with enthusiasm discussing various topics from the impact of technology to the role F&B plays in generating profits.

While discussing the technological advancements in hotels, Arun Jaie, GM, Radisson Blu Bengaluru claimed, “technology helps us understand our competition. We can even sell our F&B online making technology a very important aspect in our industry.” Apps have come a long way as well. Shiv Bose, GM, Courtyard by Marriott Bengaluru Hebbal says, “Mobile check-ins have come a long way in improving the overall experience of the guest. What has been greatly appreciated are notifications about the status of their rooms and sending a guest a message about being upgraded has allowed us to have many happy guests.” Amitabh Rai, GM, Ritz-Carlton, Bengaluru believes technology might work against business hotels in the future. “In about 10-15 years people may not have to travel for business unless physically required. Everything will be virtual and hotel stay will only appeal to those on a vacation.”

With regards to F&B in the industry, Ruban Das, GM, Double Tree by Hilton said that he learnt a lot from stand-alone restaurants. “I would like to adopt certain traits from them. For example, placement of the restaurant is very important. If it is accessible it will be successful,” he says.

Talking about the role a general manager plays in the entire hospitality industry, Maverik Mukerji, GM, Novotel Bengaluru said, “It’s all about vision. The GM provides the vision. If there is none, you’re heading in for a disaster.”

The event ended with the general managers being facilitated and of course with everyone looking forward to the April 2019 edition of Hotelier India for a complete analysis of the Hotelier India General Manager & Leadership Roundtable.
