Goa’s second international airport to come up at Mopa
The international airport will be constructed by the GMR Group
In a recent announcement, aviation consultancy firm CAPA confirmed that Goa’s second international airport will be built in Mopa in the next three years span. The upcoming international airport will be spread across 232 acre of land and will have a capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually. The international airport will be constructed by the GMR Group.
Recently, the Supreme Court granted permission for the construction of international airport at Mopa, which was suspended last year owing to concerns related to its impact on the ecology of that region. The Supreme Court had directed the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) to revisit the site and check its impact on the ecology.
However, with the Supreme Court’s go ahead on the project; the GMR Group will soon start its work. The deadline set by the state government during the initial phase for commissioning the INR 3000 crore budget was September 2020.
