Conrad Pune, a luxury brand of a global hospitality company, Hilton, recently announced that it has installed an in-house water bottling plant at their property. With this eco-conscious move, the single-use plastic bottles at the property have now been replaced with glass bottles of 300 ml and 500 ml respectively.
The water bottling is estimated to produce 10 lakh bottles annually, which will contribute a 30 per cent reduction in carbon footprint. Commenting on the development, Jayant Kadam, chief engineer, Conrad Pune, said, “In our efforts to lower the carbon footprint for a sustainable future, we have eliminated single-use plastic bottles and now offer bottles of purified alkaline drinking water. It’s a step towards ensuring all our guests and patrons, not just travel but “Travel with Purpose”.
The water bottling plant is enabled with advanced features that not only sterilize the bottle using a unique sterilization method but also tracks water quality even before filling. Each bottle has a unique QR code that guests can scan to see the quality of water in real-time. They can also see details like plastic saved and the amount of carbon emissions saved. “The IoT enabled systemhas a large display screen that tracks water quality before filling. After filling, a tamper-proof mechanism is added for the bottle and also uses the unique QR code enabled tag to engage with guests,” adds Kadam.
