The Sikkim government has found out the most unique way to fight plastic pollution. The tourist destination, which draws lakhs of tourists every year, has decided to completely ban the use of plastic water bottles and will soon be introducing bamboo water bottles for tourists.Â
Lachen located in North Sikkim is the first town in the country to completely ban packaged drinking water bottles. While most of the plastic bottles are getting replaced with glass bottles, but the government’s unique and sustainable move of introducing bamboo bottles is garnering a lot of appreciation. Besides, this has prompted the whole of Sikkim in its decision to introduce bamboo bottles and ina way will avoid unnecessary littering of bottles.
The authorities have already ordered production for 1000 bamboo water bottles. It is expected that the number of bottles will go up in the coming time. After plastic bottles, the state is eyeing to stop wafer and biscuit packets and plans to come up with some interesting options.
