SpiceJet and GoAir asks employees to go on leave without pay

SpiceJet has decided to send employees earning more than INR 50,000 per month on leave without pay on a rotational basis

Budget airlines, SpiceJet and GoAir have decided to send their employees on leave without pay (LWP) due to extension of lockdown from 14th April to 3rd May.

As per reports, SpiceJet has decided to send employees earning more than INR 50,000 per month on leave without pay on a rotational basis. SpiceJet will be implementing this policy for three months. According to some officials of SpiceJet, the employees might receive their salaries for the April month for the days they were on duty. “A limited staff from the engineering team has been put on leave without pay for a month each on a rotational basis. No company-wide decision has been taken on the issue of salary cuts or leave without pay at SpiceJet for the month of April 2020,” a spokesperson from SpiceJet informed.

Even, GoAir has asked all their employees to go on leave without pay till 3rd May. The airline has about 5,500 employees. In an email to employees GoAir management said, “The lockdown has been further extended till May 3, and with this extension, our fleet continues to be completely grounded. Hence, we are constrained to request you to proceed on leave without pay’ till May 3. We may, however, have to extend the period of LWP for a further term, if so required.”
