Choice Hotels to strengthen base in India, plans 11 new hotels in 2020
The company also has The Ascend Hotel Collection brand in India that offers upscale boutique and historic hotels
Choice Hotels India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based hospitality company Choice Hotels International, is looking to open 11 new hotels in India by 2020. Currently, it has 32 operating hotels in India. In 2020, it plans to open 11 new properties, mainly in Tier-II and -III cities, taking the total to 43.
The upcoming hotels, which are under various stages of development, will be in cities like Gurugram, Lucknow, Dehradun, Indore, Bengaluru, Kochi, Abu Road, Dalhousie, Khanvel, Lakhimpur and Rishikesh, under the franchise model. The new hotels will be opened under Comfort Inn, Quality Inn and Clarion brands as the company is mainly present in the mid-scale segments in India. In India, Choice Hotels operates mainly under three brands -- Comfort (three-star), Quality (four-star) and Clarion (basic five-star). The company also has The Ascend Hotel Collection brand in India that offers upscale boutique and historic hotels.
Vilas Pawar, CEO, Choice Hotels India said, “Owing to the fast growing market, most of our new properties will be mainly in Tier ll and Tier lll cities. We follow a franchise model, so we do not invest in property; but in our distribution platforms, our systems that deliver values and in training.”
Choice Hotels are consolidating the existing brands and strengthening their presence. “The market is not mature enough to expand with new brands. However, we do see a change happening in 1-2 years, post which we would think of introducing new brands in India,” Pawar added.
