Gujarat’s iconic tourist attraction, the Statue of Unity, will soon be made plastic free. As per latest reports, the forest department will be introducing reusable glass water bottles.

These glass bottles will have filtered water from river Narmada instead of normal RO water that is often packaged in plastic drinking water bottles. This eco-friendly initiative has been named as Ekta Paani and it aims for zero-waste, based on a circular economy concept.

The upcoming packaging unit will be set up at Ekta Nursery at Kevadiya. Talking about this initiative, deputy conservator of forests, Narmada Pratik Pandya, stated that the packaging unit will be run by Ekta Mahila Mandal Trust in association with the Vadodara-based start-up, Srishti Lifescience.

As per the official, the initiative will be instrumental in reducing the issue of plastic waste and that a glass bottle plant will be set up at an investment of 15 lakh, which will be run exclusively by the local tribal ladies. As per reports, the intial capacity of the plant will be 3000 bottles per day, which will gradually be increased to 14000 bottles daily.
