The majestic metamorphosis of Taj Usha Kiran Palace

IHCL unveils the magical transformation of Taj Usha Kiran Palace, following an extensive restoration

Taj Usha Kiran Palace, the over a century-old palace of the Maratha dynasty in Gwalior, unveils its majestic transformation following an extensive restoration. Dating back to 1880, the reimagined palace stands as a testament to Gwalior’s regal heritage and exceptional musical legacy, offering a unique blend of contemporary comfort and a storied past.

Kanika Hasrat, Area Director of Operations, MP, UP, and Uttarakhand at IHCL, said, “India’s rich cultural and historical heritage is increasingly becoming a focal point for tourism. The meticulously restored Taj Usha Kiran Palace, a gem amidst the city’s captivating history, stands as a testament to Taj’s commitment to preserving Gwalior’s legacy and traditions.”

Built by Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia of the Maratha dynasty, this illustrious landmark has borne witness to centuries of history and hosted royalty and dignitaries from around the world. The palace’s 50 spacious rooms and suites transcend time, offering a glimpse into an era of nobility and splendour.  Rightfully named after the first light of the sun, the rooms set in nine acres of sun-drenched gardens are adorned with intricate filigree work and jaali-inspired arches which let natural light flow in.  Guests can step into a bygone era, complete with a ceremonial horse-drawn carriage and the traditional Maratha tutari welcome on arrival. The majestic Navtaal swimming pool, ingeniously designed as nine lakes connected by Venetian-inspired bridges, stands as a heavenly centrepiece of the palace’s lawns.

Tanika Taneja, General Manager of Taj Usha Kiran Palace in Gwalior, said, “Taj Usha Kiran Palace’s immersive new experiences celebrate Gwalior’s lineage of culture, craft, and architecture. Bridging the gap between history and contemporary luxury, it offers a window into its glorious past with the quintessential Taj hospitality.”

Paying tribute to the glorious culinary traditions of Gwalior, the Silver Saloon, a multi-cuisine restaurant; The Courts, a courtyard café with alfresco dining; and Bada Bar make you go back in time. J Wellness Circle offers signature Indian spa therapies inspired by ancient techniques dating back to the 14th century, while the Niu & Nau salon lets you rejuvenate in a royal setting.

IHCL currently operates 12 hotels in Madhya Pradesh across Taj, SeleQtions, and Ginger brands, including 4 under development.
