The ‘F&B Person of the Year’ award at the 11th Hotelier India Awards 2019 in luxury to upper upscale category went to Simon Rastrick from The Oberoi, New Delhi. Here, is a short excerpt where we get to know a bit more about to Simon as he shares his thoughts on Hotelier India.
The award from Hotelier India is a form of recognition by industry leaders and hospitality veterans in the country. The achievement reflects the warm acceptance and appreciation for my team at The Oberoi, New Delhi. I feel grateful.
I believe, the team makes the leader and you are only as good as your team. Teamwork is imperative to steer ahead. Keep pushing forward and do not accept anything second to best is the mantra that I tend to fall back on. Not to mention, the support of our General Manager, Hotel Manager and Executive Chef has been unmatched.
I have been extremely lucky to have worked with great teams and mentors, whether it is my experience in Europe, Middle East or now, in India. It will be unfair to single out anyone from whom I draw inspiration.
It sounds like a a cliché, but my winning mantra would still be, ‘Don’t accept the unacceptable’.
In the next five years, I certainly see myself in an environment that facilitates people to co-create more value, a space and company where I can inspire others and be the very best.
I think our biggest scope for development lies in curbing attrition and increasing engagement with young talent.
Considering that personal aspirations have seen a sea change in the last few decades, we must develop more innovative ways to retain talent, increase motivation and productivity, without increasing costs.
