The ‘F&B Person of the Year’ award at the 11th Hotelier India Awards 2019 in upscale to mid market category went to Syed Asad Gauhar from Sheraton Hyderabad Hotel. Here, is a short excerpt where we get to know a bit more about to Syed as he shares his thoughts on Hotelier India.

It feels special winning the Hotelier India Award. Winning the award is considered a big thing at a pan-India level and to be recognised on such a huge platform makes it enormous.

The big names on the list of jury makes it very special. The thought of being chosen by the people who have seen it all is not less than a dream. This is the fifth time that I sent my nomination for the F&B category.

Since this is the last year before I graduate into a bigger role and move out of a direct F&B role, it is a very satisfying feeling. I saved the best for the last!

My biggest source of inspiration are my parents, who helped me to grow the graph upwards, followed by a very patient wife who has counted days and weeks in pursuit of enough time to spend with her husband.

My family was confident about my professinal abilities even when I did not do well in my career. They had the foresight to realise that someday, I would be recognised on a big platform

My outlook towards work is defined in a few words, that are rather common knowledge, and yet, not many of my generation are aware of them. They are: dive deep; be meticulous and detailed; have an ana¬lytical outlook (not many believe that this is required in our industry) and have an excellent foresight.

In the next five years, I aspire to see myself as the general manager of a 5-star luxury hotel.
