Kumaon Expedition at ‘Monsoon’, this monsoon at THE Park Bengaluru

Monsoon at THE Park Bengaluru hosts Kumaon Expedition, a kumaoni food festival, from June 14th to 16th, 2024

Monsoon, the 24-hour dining restaurant at THE Park Bengaluru, presents the ‘Kumaon Expedition’ as part of the ‘Culinary Expedition by THE Park,’ an initiative to promote local and endogenous cuisines. This exclusive culinary pop-up is a collaboration between THE Park Bengaluru and Himmaleh Spirits, showcasing special cocktails and delicacies from Kumaon (Uttarakhand) at Monsoon from June 14th to 16th, 2024, at THE Park Bengaluru.

Chef Mohan Bisht, a seasoned professional with over two decades of experience in curating dishes, will lead the culinary expedition. Hailing from Kumaon, Chef Mohan brings his passion for regional cuisine to the table. Kumaoni cuisine, known for its high nutritional value, is crafted using methods that have evolved to suit the Himalayan climate. This cuisine is renowned for enhancing the flavour of dishes with herbs and spices typically found in the region.

Chef Mohan has collaborated with local culinary teams to create a unique menu that highlights the speciality dishes of the Kumaon Mandal region, prepared using locally sourced herbs and spices. The three-day event will feature signature vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes such as Jungli Chaap, Aloo Chana Meladya, and Kumaoni Thaali. The dishes are prepared using traditional slow cooking techniques and signature elements like flax seeds, hemp, and stone-ground spices that put ‘comfort’ into North Indian food.

In addition to the gastronomic delights, the event will also feature a range of flavourful drinks that showcase distinctive tastes and flavours of Uttarakhand. Himmaleh Spirits will showcase their signature gin, ‘Kumaon and I’, a contemporary dry gin distilled using locally grown rice and regional botanicals like Himalayan Juniper, Kalmegh, Timur pepper, and Rose. Siddhant Hule, a passionate mixologist fond of tequila and gin, will take over the bar, and present signature cocktails such as the Mountain Temperature and The Pahadi Highball.

Speaking about the food pop-up, Kiron Kumar, Director of Operations at THE Park Bengaluru, said, “Our ‘Kumaon Expedition’ is not merely a culinary event; it’s an immersive journey that captures the soul of India’s rich cultural tapestry. Through our ‘Culinary Expedition by THE Park’ series, we are passionately committed to spotlighting lesser-known yet incredibly vibrant micro-cuisines of India. By showcasing the distinct flavours of Kumaon, we aim to take our guests on an Anything But Ordinary journey, right here in the heart of Bengaluru.”
