The liquor market in the Indian subcontinent has witnessed a tremendous change in the
recent past, with the emergence of affordable premium whisky labels and the evolving
drinking preferences of people, especially the younger generation.
An entrepreneur from Dubai and Founder of Consilium Whisky Co, Rohit Ramsinghani
is a traveler at heart and has explored a number of distilleries around the world, with the
singular purpose of sourcing exceptional malts and taking the art of whisky-making to
the next level. In 2019, he established ‘The Consilium Whisky Co.’ with the aim to
introduce a series of curated malt expressions, in the Indian market.
The Consilium Whisky Co. has sourced over 600 malt samples from various distilleries
across the globe, which are amalgamated by expert blenders, to create best-in-class
blends for the Indian palate. From the grains and malts to the wooden casks, every
single factor contributing to the flavor profile of the whisky is meticulously selected.
Some of the leading bartenders have sampled our blends since they are the bridge
between the consumers and whisky makers.
The company has given India its first blended rye malt and peat whiskies, in the BII
(Bottled-In-India) category, with their two new expressions, Consilium Black Blended
Rye Malt Whisky and Consilium Black Blended Cigar Malt Whisky. Both blends are
artistically crafted to showcase distinctive aromas and taste profiles, creating a unique
sensory experience for the consumers.
The packaging is well-designed, and appealing aesthetically to the modern-day
audience. “Packaging is the first sensory experience that your consumers have with your
product. It must attract their attention instantaneously.
We envisioned Consilium Black to look contemporary yet classic. Every single design
aspect of the packaging is clean, simple, and minimal, yet creating a visually bold impact. says Anam Sohail, Design Head at The Consilium Whisky Co.
Manish Mohnani, Country Head for Consilium Black in India, shares, “The Indian
alcohol industry has been developing dynamically. The Consilium Whisky Co. aims to
introduce taste profiles, which are currently not available in the Indian market. Our first
two blends – The Rye Malt and The Cigar Malt, are a testament to this vision.
Our initial launch market was chosen as India’s maximum city, Mumbai. We believe
Mumbai offers the diversity of India in one metropolitan. If one can make it here, one can
make it anywhere.
From here, we would explore the southern cities of Bengaluru and Hyderabad. As the
leading I.T. hubs of India, these cities offer an abundance of sophisticated and
well-traveled tipplers, who expect nothing but the best, in terms of the beverages they
consume. From there on, we will be moving to the northern and eastern states of India.
We intend to be available in every major metropolitan city of India, by the first half of
2024.”
Rojita Tiwari, Chief Brand Strategist of Consilium Black, says – “Both, Rye Malt and
Cigar Malt whiskies, are a first-of-its-kind in the country. Over the years, we have seen
demand for well-crafted blended whiskies in India. While there are many options available
for consumers, Rye whisky still remains an unexplored segment.
Consilium Rye Malt is a blend of Scotch and German Rye, which is very unique and
unconventional.
Since 2009, the Rye whisky category has grown exponentially in mature alcohol markets.
So we are aiming to catch up with the ongoing trend and offer discerning Indian whisky
consumers a distinctive choice. Peated malts have long been favored by a large section of Indian consumers, and The Cigar Malt aims to target this group of drinkers.”
