At The Westin Mumbai Garden City, Umamahesh Rao started a checkbook accounting process for guest amenities and a chemical ordering process to maintain profitability of the hotel. Due to the PPM process and various room upgrading projects, scores increased by 3.4% in the maintenance and upkeep departments over the last year. Rao also set up an in-house carpet shampooing team, which saved the hotel around Rs 6 lakh rupees annually.
At his workplace, Rao ensures that each team member is motivated, trained and cross-trained within the department to ensure that knowledge enhancement is achieved and backups are created for each process. There is also a well-defined growth plan that is discussed and laid down for each associate within Rao’s team. There has been zero attrition in his department since the last one year, which highlights his multi-faceted leadership skills and the ability to obtain loyalty from his team.
