From one small hotel on the outskirts of Rourkela to its present collection of 10 world-class hotels located in eight destinations, spanning four states, the journey for MAYFAIR Hotels & Resorts, under the able leadership of hospitality veteran Souvagya Mohapatra, Executive Director, has been an admirable one.
Analysing the success of the brand, Mohapatra elaborates, “Our idea to create luxurious world-class properties with an ethnic touch, colonial-style and imbibing local architecture and culture in design, coupled with personalised services has made MAYFAIR unique.” He adds, “Our perfect timing of opening the right property in the suitable destination and targeting the appropriate market segment has given us strategic advantages.”
Not one to rest on past laurels, Mohapatra ensures that upgradation and innovation are on-going processes. “We are constantly upgrading ourselves with innovative initiatives to improve operational efficiency, which is the key to our developmental strategy. We are very open to adapt to new technologies, gadgets, software and processes. We keep a keen eye on new destinations that can be nurtured and developed.”
Mohapatra or his team do not believe in being complacent. “We keep all our systems updated with the latest technological developments and adopt innovative practices. We use the latest software to upgrade our reservation system, procurement system, supply chain management system and reputation management system.”
Talking about future expansion plans, he informs, “A 131-key five-star deluxe resort, overlooking a lake at Naya Raipur with extensive conference and banquet facilities, shall be our next addition by the year end. At the foot hills of Northeast and on the outskirts of Siliguri, we are adding another 5-star deluxe property within the 1,000 acres of tea gardens, with a room inventory of 100. Another 5-star deluxe 252-keys property is underway at Kolkata, which will commence operations by early 2021.”
Delivering quality services through their hotels is how Mohaptra believes in staying ahead of competition. “Ninety percent of MAYFAIR properties are number one in the city or town in which they operate. We have always strived to maintain a property’s distinctiveness and deliver the best standard of services and experiences. We ensure that our rooms and bathrooms are huge which symbolises luxury, even though we compromise on the number of keys.”
Exceeding guest expectations with excellence in personalised services through a set of dedicated team players, according to him, has played a vital role in the company’s success.
An active member of OSTPC – Odisha State Tourism Promotion Council for the term 2018-2021, Mohapatra is also an Executive Committee member of FHRAI – The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India, having served two terms — 2014-15, and 2016 till now.
A passionate hotelier, Mohapatra states, “As we are in accelerated expansion mode and constantly upgrading our existing properties, I need to devote more time to office which leaves very little space for “my time”. Nevertheless, whatever time I get is quality time for my family.”
