Power List 2018: Jean-Michel Cassé, COO, AccorHotels, India and South Asia

AccorHotels in India has a strong corporate branding, and is recognised for its performance and commitment towards all its stakeholders. Under the leadership of Cassé, the journey over the past decade has been one that spelt success.

Says Cassé , “Some of the key milestones we have achieved include building a strong network of close to 50 hotels represented by nine of our international and regional brands, nearing 9,000 keys and over 8,500 employees. Moreover, we consolidated our position in the mid-scale and economy segment with 19 Novotel hotels and 18 ibis hotels respectively and expanded our luxury offerings by bringing Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Swissotel and Grand Mercure brands to India.”

The company adopts a ‘Born in France, Made in India’ approach. He elaborates, “We believe in focusing on delivering quality products, enabling world-class guest experiences and localising our brands.”

Clearly the strategy for India has worked remarkably well for AccorHotels. Cassé informs, “AccorHotels has never been as strong as it is today. This momentum comes from the transformation we have accomplished by reinventing our business model, balancing our presence via multiple brands across India, based on the demands of our guests and investing and developing our digital tools.”

AccorHotels’ intent is to be leaders in the markets that they operate in, across all segments. “There are several important markets for us in India including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai and Goa,” explains Cassé.

F&B offerings are an area AccorHotels attaches great importance to. “We have worked towards making F&B the heart and soul of our hotels by thinking like restaurateurs and delivering an excellent experience that is relevant and authentic. For example, ibis Gurgaon Golf Course Road recently unveiled a new avatar of Spice It, the hotel’s all-day casual dining multi-cuisine restaurant to cater to local flavours, but with an edge. Positioned more like a neighborhood eatery, the innovative food concept is tailor-made for India.”

Globally, AccorHotels is renowned for its best practices implemented to effectively control costs by keeping a close eye on expenses, tracking them, analysing and understanding them to derive maximum effectiveness. This, even as they ensure that they maintain a high standard of quality. And in India, things are no different.

A leader who is firmly grounded, Cassé says, “I seek inspiration from everywhere I go and everyone I meet. I think there have been several people that have inspired me from across various walks of life. I believe that everyone has something to offer, supplemented by my experiences during my interactions here in India and my travels across the world. As a self-motivated
person, I tend to take up every challenge that comes my way. Living in India and driving the responsibility for the AccorHotels group for the past decade is a
testament to that,” he signs off.
