Power List 2018: Sunjae Sharma, Vice President, India Operations, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts

Known for his leadership skills, business acumen, industry foresight and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Sharma has been able to help the company grow.

Currently, Hyatt’s India portfolio includes 29 hotels across 18 key destinations, with a total of over 7,000 rooms. Sunjae Sharma, Vice President, India Operations, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, is responsible for executing the company’s operational and growth strategy and has contributed immensely in this forward march.

Elaborates Sharma, “We launched Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty and Hyatt Centric MG Road Bangalore in 2018. We have 29 hotels in the pipeline, which will expand our India portfolio into 18 new destinations. Hyatt is a hospitality management company that operates hotels owned by a diverse set of owners and we typically do not invest in hotels. We have a distinct and differential strategy, and we want to be present in the destinations where our guests are travelling, including cities with major tourist attractions, upcoming Tier-II cities and business hubs.”

“The strength of our brands is also fueled by the loyalty of our discerning guests. Our global program World of Hyatt is a strategic initiative that drives the connection to our customers,” avers Sharma.

Product innovation as per market needs is their forte. “Apart from our authentic luxury and lifestyle offerings, we have a keen focus on a new generation of “millennial-minded” travellers. We launched our Hyatt Centric brand in India in May 2018 with Hyatt Centric MG Road Bangalore. This is our lifestyle offering for those modern explorers. Hyatt Place brand is another key component of our growth strategy in India. The brand falls under our select service portfolio and has great potential in the country as it offers a stylish, comfortable and cost-effective option for business travelers and families in tier I, II, and III cities.”

Unstoppable, he is a man on a mission. Sharma believes, “Work-life balance is not etched in stone. It is more a state-of-mind, which is attained by achieving happiness by caring for your priorities in life.”
