Mumbai-based Arjun Rathi Design, well known for its unique lights collections that merge art, design, and function, have unveiled a chic range of lights – The Sugar Collection. Each piece in the series showcases the brand’s exquisite craftsmanship and innovative thinking.
The Sugar Collection draws inspiration from our emotional connect with food. Almost everyone has some nostalgic memory of Indian desserts and our indigenous candy, and the collection aims to explore textures and colours of the food-scape to design lighting. The collection employs blown glass, hand blown by Indian and Czech glassblowers, and handmade ceramic forms juxtaposed with industrial metal. The collection comprises a series of customisable hanging, standing, wall and ceiling flush-mount fittings, which can be used across various design aesthetics by simply customising the finishes.
- Highlights from the Sugar Collection:
- Orange Candy Edition: This edition is inspired from the Indian orange candy and comprises of Indian hand-blown glass with an orange ombre to match the candy inspiration.
Spaces and Design has used Candy Mobile in one of their projects to add a chic and sophisticated look.
- PP Edition: Inspired from the Indian Pan Pasand candy, this light comprises Indian hand-blown glass with a red and green ombre.
- Candy Floss Edition: This light is a tribute to the Pink Candy Floss and comprises Indian hand-blown glass with its signature pink ombre.
- Bullseye Edition: The Indian Bullseye candy inspired glass forms the focal point of this series. The hand-blown glass created with Czech glass blowers mimics the Bullseye mint candy to create a series of customizable fittings. This edition includes the Bullseye Table Lamp, Bullseye I, Bullseye Umbrella and Bullseye Spiral.
- Paan Edition: This light explores the folding patterns of the beetle leaf in leather and other woven materials. The hand-cast detail of the clove in brass forms the signature of the Paan edition, tying the forms together. The Paan edition comprises the Paan III, Paan Hanging III, Paan Floor Lamp, Paan Pendant and Paan Pendant II.
Interior Designer Sripriya Reddy has used the Paan pendant light to illuminate the Taro restaurant in Hyderabad, while Kaab Studio has used the Paan floor lamp in one of their projects.
- Motichoor Series: The Indian Motichoor ladoo inspired the texture and form of the wall and ceiling flush mount fittings. The handmade ceramic bowl, which can be glazed to a customisable finish, and blown glass globes combine to create the fitting. The Motichoor Series includes the Motichoor Flushmount and Motichoor Wall Sconce.
- Chocolate Edition: The signature mould of chocolate slabs inspired the form of the
Chocolate edition to create a series of wall and ceiling flush mount fittings, which can be used in various combinations. The fittings are also tunable with a small remote from 2700K to 3000K to 6000k. The Chocolate edition comprises the Chocolate Flushmount and Chocolate Wall Sconce.
