WINNERS for Hotelier India Awards 2010 announced

In its second year, the Hotelier India Awards 2010 once again proved to be a landmark event for the hospitality industry. Held on December 16 at the Westin Gurgaon, the event saw a turnout of almost 400 guests at the awards ceremony, which was followed by cocktails and dinner.

This year’s theme was the celebration of excellence in all aspects of the hotel industry, with 14 award categories assigned to different departments.

The winners were selected by a panel of judges that included industry stalwarts such as Leela president Rajiv Kaul, JW Marriott area vice president India, Malaysia, Maldives and Pakistan Rajeev Menon, Oberoi senior vice president Kapil Chopra, ITC chief operating officer Dipak Haksar, HVS India managing director Manav Thadani, Horwath’s Vijay Thacker, Sarovar president Anil Madhok and ITP Publishing group editor Conrad Egbert. It was a close contest for the 243 nominations received in November and the winners were finally announced during the ceremony.


Speaking about the event, Arjun Oberoi, Joint Managing Director of EIH who accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of his uncle PRS ‘Biki’ Oberoi said, “This is a fantastic event and I am truly honoured to be here to pick up the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Mr PRS Oberoi. The turnout is great and it’s been put together very well.”

Housekeeper of the Year – Meenu Tognatta of ITC The Maurya, New Delhi
HR Person of the Year – Nayna Panjanani of the JW Marriott, Mumbai
Innovative Person of the Year – Kush Kapoor of The Leela Kempinski, Gurgaon
IT Person of the Year – Nitish Chandra of the ITC Headquarters
Laundry Manager of the Year – Sanjiv Uppal of The Oberoi, New Delhi
Marketing Person of the Year – Ashish Gangrade of Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces
Procurement Person of the Year – Sunil Babu of The Leela Palace, Bangalore
Spa & Fitness Person of the Year – Manauj Suvarna
Unsung Hero of the Year – this award was dedicated to all the staff of Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, The Oberoi Mumbai and The Trident Mumbai during the 26/11 attacks
